Vintage 1933 - 1940 Schuco Hopsa 988 Dancing clown with baby mouse
This wonderful dancing clown is part of the dancing figures series ("Tanzfiguren" in German) which were introduced in 1933.
The series was continued until the outbreak of WW2 in 1940 and continued again in the post-war era.
This little fellow, who is ca. 5.1 inches or 13 cm high, was made between 1933 and 1940 as it is marked with "Made in Germany" on his metal feet.
The post-war version has plastic feet which are marked with "Made in US Zone Germany".
It is complete, fully functional and the colors of his felt clothing are still as vibrant as they were almost 70 years ago.
Downside is that his bright red jacket has a number of moth holes on the left side (visible in the pictures).
Based on the above, I would rate this clown "Excellent".
When wound though the key-hole in his back, he starts to dancing in circles while raising and lowering the his tiny dance partner.
